The primary target of our economic development efforts is manufacturing because manufacturing jobs have a significant impact on the local economy.  Average production wage in the Florence area is over $15 per hour (www.bis.gov).  Manufacturing jobs also have the highest ripple effect throughout the community as additional goods and services are needed for the new business and employees.  For every new manufacturing job as many as four additional jobs are created in the local economy (www.americanmanufacturing.org).  And for every dollar in final sales, manufacturing supports another $1.37 in other sectors of the economy (www.nam.org).  From schools to restaurants to public services, manufacturing makes a difference in Darlington County.
