Progress Energy serves two fast-growing areas of the country, and the company is pursuing a balanced approach to meeting the future energy needs of the region. That balance includes increased energy efficiency programs, investments in renewable energy technologies and a state-of-the-art electricity system
Facilities include a nuclear, coal, and turbine driven energy sources that provide more than 1500 megawatts, with total capacity in the state of more than 9600 megawatts. The company service area is over 30,000 square miles and represents a population of more than 3.5 million people.
Pee Dee Electric Cooperative
Locally owned and operated, the co-op is also a partner in the nationwide network of Touchstone Energy utilities serving more than 18 million consumers.

Darlington County residents and business receive communications services from AT&T.
Hadquartered in Raleigh, N.C., Progress Energy is a fortune 250 energy company with more than 21,000 megawatts of generation capacity and $10 billion in annual revenues. The company includes two major utilities that serve more than 3.1 million customers in the Carolinas and Florida. Progress Energy is the 2006 recipient of the Edison Electric Institute's Edison Award, the industry's highest honor, in recognition of its operational excellence. The company also is the first utility to receive the prestigious J.D. Power and Associates Founder's Award for customer service. 
Pee Dee Electric, A Touchstone Energy Partner, is a member owned, not-for-profit utility serving commercial, industrial and residential consumers in six counties, including Darlington, with two full service facilities. 
SCE&G serves Darlington County as the principal distributor of natural gas. The company has lines throughout the county and services a wide variety of industries, commercial entities and residential customers.
