Coker is a private four year liberal arts college, founded in 1908. In 1996, US News and World Report ranked Coker among the top 10 southern institutions. The campus is a traditional, tree-lined Southern campus with white- columned dormitories and Georgian brick buildings. Coker College is a close-knit educational ommunity dedicated to enriching the lives of students and preparing them for the opportunities that lie ahead after graduation. The college offers: Bachelor's degrees in 24 majors, 10 minors, and several secondary education certification programs.

The governor's school is a nine month public residential school for academically talented eleventh and twelfth grade students who reside in South Carolina. The school is located on the Coker College campus and was founded in 1988 to provide an opportunity for intellectual development beyond the scope of typical high school education standards. If offers to the student, rigorous classwork, directed laboratory investigation, and independent research which helps them foster the ability to create and develop ideas.

The university is a four year liberal arts institution. The school was established in 1970. The campus is situated on a 309 acre tract and is a located in neighboring Florence County. The university offers 26 undergraduate courses, 7 pre-professional programs, and 3 graduate programs. The Graduate Programs are: MBA, Education, Psychology.
